This dissertation introduces a viewpoint
selection system for an automatic production of a single continuous video
stream from a multi-camera setup. It covers the steps necessary to create such
a system -- building the software platform, developing a tracking method and
design of the viewpoint selection algorithm. The viewpoint selection is
inspired by cinematography: virtual director and virtual cameraman together
show the subject observed by the multi-camera setup in such a way, that the
audience sees both space overview of the scene and details of subject's
actions.
Petr Doubek studied computer science at the Charles University in
Prague, Czech Republic, from which he graduated with Master of Science in 2001.
In the same year, he joined the Computer Vision Lab of the ETH Zurich, where he
worked as a PhD student and research assistant in the field of multi-camera
systems. In 2005 he finished his doctoral thesis on multi-view tracking and
viewpoint selection, and was awarded a PhD degree (Dr. sc. ETH Zurich) from the
ETH Zurich.
